The nominees for Best Puzzle Game of 2010 are...
And the winner is...
Between the perplexing dungeons of Darksiders, the point and click antics of Guybrush Threepwood, and the motion control amusement of Tumble, some of the best puzzles of 2010 were found outside traditional puzzle games. The same could be said of our favorite puzzle game of the year, Q-Games' PixelJunk Shooter. The studio's fourth entry in the PixelJunk series, Shooter tasks one or two players with piloting tiny subterranean vehicles to rescue a number of survivors trapped underground. It might seem like just another twin-stick shooter, but a range of liquids and other elements scattered throughout each environment ensure that you'll have to rack your brain to figure out how to rescue every last survivor. The colorful 2D graphics mesh well with the physics-based fluid system, resulting in an easy-to-play but hard-to-master puzzler worthy of our Best Puzzle Game of 2010 award.
And the Community Award goes to...
Darksiders reigned supreme in the community vote for best puzzle game, nabbing a respectable 32.9% of the votes. Tales of Monkey Island/Monkey Island 2 nipped at its heels, coming in right underneath Darksiders with 31.7% of the votes. The PSU editorial team's award winner, PixelJunk: Shooter, came in next at 23.2%. The final nominee, Tumble, managed to muster up 12.2%.
