The next Final Fantasy game will raise hopes this March

Square Enix’s love affair with the Final Fantasy franchise only grows stronger with the release of each game. Fans, on the other hand, have pretty mixed feelings, but they only have to wait until March to get the next game in the series.

The company today announced that Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy will be released in North America on March 22. Besides carrying the unofficial award for most annoying video game name, Dissidia 012 is a follow-up to the Dissidia Final Fantasy fighter. You can pick up the game for $29.99 USD.

The game features action-packed fighting and RPG-based character developing, enhanced with a command-based mode true to the Final Fantasy-style combat, at least that’s what the most recent press release states. Square also announced today that Rachael Leigh Cook will voice Tifa, Keith David will voice Chaos, Steve Burton will voice Cloud, and George Newbern will voice Sephiroth. Ali Hillis, who voiced Lightning in Final Fantasy XIII, will also be featured in the game.

    This is more a less a fighting game. This won't help redeem Final Fantasy. You need to make a FF that is not only an RPG, but an engaging one, an open one, and fun to play, in all or most aspects. Honestly, I can only see this happening in Versus XIII. If Versus XIII fails to deliver, SE is screwed.

    @3 "If Versus XIII fails to deliver, SE is screwed." I've been thinking the same exact thing all along. So true. If they manage to mess up Versus, they're done. That is unless they can bring it back with KH3 (KH seems to be the only series SE actually cares about now). One can only hope.

    @3

    Versus and Type-0 seem like sure-fire hits. I can't see how they'd manage to screw those two games up. But you never know...

    What I'm saying is, is that if something does go wrong and they don't sell as well as some others and do lose money for the games, then something could go wrong. I mean, even though I've never played a KH game, I do have faith in the KH-like battle system for Versus (and it's directed by the same guy who directed all the KH games). I do have a PSP now, but I don't know about Dissidia 012.

     well, with the bitter taste of FF13 in my head, 13-2 is going to fail. Dissidia is not a true FF. KH3 is not coming anytime soon. FF7 remake seems like its not going to be reality. And 13 versus is the only game to look forward. I think square enix is in some deep trouble as it is.

     I wouldn't consider this the next game in the series. It's a great game but it's a spin off.

    Will rise hope.... hope that they go back to making FF games like they were before instead of broking an already working formula.
    Square, if it ain't broken don't fix it.
