Electronic Arts big cheese John Riccitiello has said that its visually stunning shooter Battlefield 3 is “designed to take [Call of Duty] down.”
Riccitiello made the comments during an Ad Age Conference presentation this week, where the executive said he expects to see “a couple of hundred million dollars [worth of] marketing against these two products.”
Elsewhere, he also touched current state of the games industry, anticipating the current user base of an estimated 1.5 billion players rise to three million in the next three-four years.
This year’s entry in the Call of Duty franchise has yet to be formally unveiled, though word on the web suggests a third entry in the Modern Warfare series from Sledgehammer, Raven and Infinity Ward.

And I hope it does. COD needs to burn in a fire and never rise from the ashes.

I think people are getting the wrong idea about cod. I'm not a fan but much like the rest of you gamers I too have played, and owned a few cod games, only to then later sell them. It's not IW's fault that they keep bringing out the same game every year it's Activision. They are simply in it for the money. Ask yourself this ... If Activision never bought out IW and cod was released say every 3 -4 years with improvements such as graphics would you guys still be hating on it?
Look at Resistance, Gears of War, Halo, Uncharted, etc those games aren't released every year. And yes I will but BF3 but only on PC since it has more players : )

CoD is like a wife that was great at the start of marriage but now shes naggin, wasting ur money, ignoring your demands & cheating on you. everyone is staying with their wife(CoD) becuz she dresses(graphics) hot & has big boobs(multiplayer) to play with but now they sag down to her knees when the bra is off. most people stay with her(CoD) becuz they dont want to find anyone else & they love reliving the past which is completely gone now. my point is "There is always more fish(FPS) in the sea!"

Wow, never thought i'd hear multiplayer compared to boobs... just, wow, that was bizzarre. Oh and I think most people would disagree about COD having good graphics, but I guess that's more of a personal opinion, anway.
