PSN outages: No 'official' end in sight

Sony is asking PlayStation Network users to be patient as the company works to safely restore service. Unfortunately for those patient PSN users (that’s several million people worldwide), there is no official end in sight.

According to a PlayStation Blog post by Patrick Seybold, senior director of Corporate Communications & Social Media, Sony Computer Entertainment America, there is no additional information on when the PSN and Qriocity services will be online. “Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.”

The update, or lack of update, comes soon after PSU received a tip that hackers targeted Admin Dev accounts and that the attacks were much more potentially dangerous than originally suspected. In further email correspondence yesterday with the tipster, who says he has a close connection with a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe employee, he said Sony's efforts to re-active the service were marginally extended. Sony officially said it's now working to re-build the system, and our source tells us this is taking longer than anticipated, likely resulting in the delayed re-launch of the PSN.

Seybold backs up these statements from our source. “As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly,” Seybold wrote on the PS Blog. “We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.”

We should have more information on the situation later today. Stay tuned.

PS Plus cloud game saves are utterly pointless if you can't access them.

@ftsamo05 now you're one of those people who have a right to complain, people who have payed for psn should be compensated, even if it's only a small reimbursement for the time psn was down.

either way, get this sorted sony, I need my warhawk fix lol.

You cant tell me that this whole time and they cant be more truth full about just how long they think it will take. Plus just what went on to mess things up in the first place. Not a fan of xbox but this is making me rethink this whole ps3 idea. We make them so much money its stupid, yet they treat us like crap.

@9 I don't think Sony have made much money from PS3 tbh. Not yet atleast.

Also, with 70 million clients they should really have a twitter guy who just updates like every 2-4 hours about the progress of the fix. Even if it's bad news, I just want to know.

It is cute when people say it is a free service so we shouldn't complain.  It isn't a free service.  It is a service that is included in the cost of the system.  Also known as a VALUE ADDED service.  Plus is a premium cost service.  So, we all paid for the service when we bought the system.  XBOX Live has a free service as well but it is nowhere near as robust as PSN.  Fact of the matter is, Sony sold the system with this service included as a draw.  Just like they sold the system with Other OS as a draw.  But when things don't go well, fanboys apologize for Sony, giving them an unusual amount of slack for not delivering what they promised.  I am so glad that I am not so easily consumed by a loyalty to a brand that I excuse its every fault.

Basically, Sony's way of saying that now the Easter holiday is over, we can go in and finally fix this situation.

To everyone complaining about wanting to be recompensated. You'll be lucky if you do, and should be very thankful for it.

It is in the Terms of Service that we all accepted that the PSN is not guaranteed to provide uninterrupted services. It is not guaranteed against outages, blackouts, etc. Stuff like that. And they are not held liable.

We agreed to it. So if Sony is feeling generous after all this, they may recompense to Plus subscibers. IF.

That said, to PSU, that seems a rather bleak headline, don't you think? Trying for some shock factor? Maybe you're emulating Fox News? Did you try contacting Sony at all? PSX Extreme did. You know what they got? An answer.

"At the earliest, Tuesday evening. Next weekend at the latest."

OMG!!! jajaja i love their way... people ask about and update and they say the same as thursday, friday and saturday..."We are working on it to make them back online... AS FAST AS WE CAN?...then people ask about how much time and they answer" we dont have and update or timeframe to share" so there is no ETA yet... for me is the same they are always saying since thursday till today...it is all the same BUT!! with different words...lol

Also, "PSU received a tip"? Really? As in you, PSU, were directly given that information about the Dev Admin accounts being compromised? It wasn't like a broad announcement anywhere? It was exclusively given, directly to PSU? Man, it's leaves little reason to wonder why most of the people I know who visit this site only skim through headlines and move on. (I, myself, only read this article because of the Faux News-worthy headline.) Do you get your writers off craiglist, or something?

Well, the above reader above justifies the necessecity (or lack thereof) for GOOD writers.

@15 - if you took the time to read the original article about the tip linked in this article, you would know that PSU received the tip directly. Actually, it was sent to us and one other site but we posted the information first. Also, the faux headline???? Seriously? The headline is backing up 100% what Sony said on the official blog in that there is no official update on when the service will be restored -- therefore, there is no official end in site. But, I understand if you feel it was exaggerated or something and we appreciate any feedback -- positive or negative.

Sonys there when you buy there stuff. But when it's time to fix things there not. You think with all money sony soaks out of us. They would have better tech or hacker on your side like the fbi does

I think this multi-Billion Dollar company needs to take more precautions, and have better hacker defenses. Honestly, this had me thinking either PSN got mad at its users and wanted us to get some sun on Spring Break or play other games while not being online, or some hacker hacked it again. And it was a hacker. I just hope this blows over in the next 2 days, because i get kinda bored when my parents are at work... Also if you wanna play a free FPS try Battlefield Heroes on the PC. Just go to battlefieldheroes.com Its what i\'ve been doing and it\'s passing time by quite nicely.

I love that the PSU guy comments and makes the other guy look like a total tit.
The only reason why PSN being down bothers me is that I want my Retro-Scorpion costume and fatality! Other than that, I don't care
