Music is a powerful medium. Capable of stirring up long-forgotten memories and evoking powerful emotion in the listener, music can reduce even the burliest of blokes into blubbering, crumpled heaps. And who says that us guys are afraid to show their sensitive side? Poppycock. Of course, video games are no exception to this rule, and as often is the case, a stellar soundtrack can greatly accentuate the on-screen antics, elevating even the most perfunctory scene to hard-hitting greatness.
In a continued celebration of some of gaming’s ear-pleasing aural accomplishments, PSU presents yet another instalment in our on-going Classic Tracks series. This time around, we scrutinize an all-time classic in the form of Final Fantasy VII’s legendary ‘One-winged Angel’ theme.

Accompanying the final battle of the game – a duel to the death with the angelic Safer Septhiroth – One-Winged Angel has garnered a substantial fan following over the years, cementing it as one of the most iconic tracks in Final Fantasy's 20-year history. And as far as boss themes go, this certainly ticks the proverbial epic, end-of-game scrap checklist.
Often lauded as Uematsu-san’s “most recognisable contribution” to the franchise, ‘One-Winged Angel’ is also particularly noteworthy as the first composition in the venerable RPG series to incorporate digitalized vocal work. By that, of course, I’m referring to the pulse-pounding, operatic wailing heard reciting those infamous lyrics:
“Estuans interius
Ira vehementi
Sephiroth!
Sephiroth!”

Not the best bit of music on FF7, City of Ancients is B-E-A-Utiful, Jenova, sublime, Fiddle de Chocobo is an amusing ditty, The great warrior (ode to Seto) the list goes on and on. Nobuo Uematsu is a true composing legend, looking forward to seeing the Black mages in London in September. I still live in hope of a Final Fantasy 7 redo on the PS3 or Next gen equiv. I`ve played many games in my life but FF7 stands head and shoulders above all else, simply the finest Video gaming experience i`ve ever had, truly unrivalled!!
Oh and BTW, these junk fillers on this thread really let this wonderful site down, please, please please, remove them asap!! Thanx
