Hideo Kojima heaps praise on L.A. Noire MotionScan tech

L.A. Noire’s celebrated MotionScan capture technology is poised to “change the direction of adventure games,” says legendary developer Hideo Kojima.

Chatting with EDGE at the Gamelab conference in Barcelona recently, the Metal Gear Solid mastermind said that while he wasn’t planning on utilizing the tech for his new project, he still can’t wait to get his hands on Team Bondi’s critically acclaimed crime caper when it eventually turns up in Japan.

"I'm very interested in [LA Noire], and I'm waiting for it to be released in Japanese," said Kojima-san. "I haven't played it yet but I was able to go to the studio where they were [performing the facial capture].

"The technology is absolutely fantastic," he continued. "Nevertheless, for the next game I want to make, it isn't necessarily the technology I need, so I don't think it goes along with the next game I would like to create."

Despite this, Kojima was quick to heap praise on the fancy tech, adding, "This technology, regarding facial expressions - that affect the outcome of the game - I think that's a huge element that from now on will change the direction of adventure games."
