Last week a teaser video was released by Sony, pointing towards some sort of October 5 reveal. Now that day has come and an extended version of the teaser has been released; it is a new PlayStation ad, which is part of the company’s new ‘Long Live Play’ campaign, dedicated to none other than all of us PlayStation fans.

Early last month, Sony made the announcement that they were on the lookout for “a few good gamers” to assist in a special assignment to the brand-new ‘Long Live Play’ campaign. Asking PlayStation fans to email pictures of themselves holding a PS3 controller and in 30 words-or-less; describe how they epitomize the ultimate PlayStation gamer. After reaming through the thousands of responses sent, here is the end result.

The new TV ad is in every sense of the word epic. We follow a couple of American WW2 soldiers who wanders into a bar, filled will a fantastic array of video game icons from both PS3-exclusive and multi-platform titles. Appearances include God of War’s Kratos, Isaac Clark from Dead Space, Agent 47, SackBoy, Solid Snake, and an amusing look at Nathan Drake flirting with Final Fantasy’s Lightning. How many more can you pick out?

On the US PlayStation Blog, Sony’s VP of Product Marketing, Scott Steinberg, said, “It is our hope that this film showcases to all gamers the incredible characters and experiences that make PlayStation 3 the ultimate platform for people who love to game...” “Now, with your help, we’re spreading the word so the world knows that PlayStation continues to be the top destination for gaming.”

Essentially, the message of the campaign is that PlayStation and its titles would be nothing without the support of their fans.
