Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has teased that developer NetherRealm Studios has an “unexpected surprise” in the pipeline.

Boon took to Twitter to drop the news, which simply said: "Unexpected surprise from NetherRealm Studios coming.......?"

Apparently, whatever the studio has up its sleeves is unrelated to this year’s Mortal Kombat title, with Boon playing down any hopes of seeing a 'complete' release of sorts.

"RT @PdogGray @noobde Super Mortal Kombat 9 Turbo Limited Special Edition? Noobde: With all the DLC + a few new characters?!?!? No. :|"

"RT @DQueBeats @noobde is the suprise MK9 related? thats all i need to know Noobde: No sir," he added.

Stay tuned for more info as we get it.
