Producer Graham King has revealed that the upcoming Tomb Raider movie reboot will shed some light on the origins of heroine Lara Croft.

Speaking with Coming Soon, King spoke of his desire to take the franchise back to the drawing board, and promised the flick will contain its fair share of action despite being a 'character piece.'

"Listen, the box office, they [previous Tomb Raider films] weren't disasters but I find it interesting that the story that we're telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece," he said.

"It does have a lot of really great characters, but it's a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it's something very different. I've not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we're going to give it a shot."

The film is being penned by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby of Iron Man and Children of Men fame. The duo’s intention is to cobble together "origin story for Lara Croft that solidifies her place alongside Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor in the pantheon of great female action heroes".

No word yet on who will be stepping into Croft’s boots this time around, though the previous two Tomb Raider movies have featured Angelina Jolie in the role. Likewise, it remains unknown if the film will connect to the upcoming videogame reboot currently in development at Crystal Dynamics.

Tomb Raider (working title) is currently scheduled to hit cinemas in 2013. Stay tuned.

If he does it in the style of the new Video Game reboot it may be a winner. I agree, if they cast Keira Knightley or someone like her (you know, brown hair, english, hot) then that would be great. I hope he a great job with it, we'll see.

I must admit I have my doubts with this, but I'll hold judgment till I see it.  The first two movies were kind of lame in my opinion.  However the new game looks like it could be incredible, so if they try for something more on that lines they may have a good shot.  I'm sure I'll end up seeing it, but I'll wait till I've seen a trailer or two for deciding if it is in the theater or a rental.  I do hope it does well, they have potential.

so we'll get Lara being born? Lara with her first doll? Lara at school? Lara having her first love affair? What is it, a Twilight clone?

We want an adult gorgeous sexy Lara, visiting ancient sites, solving puzzles, doing acrobatics and foiling bad guys plans

No interest in baby or teenage Lara, they'll only manage to make a failed reboot

@5  I doubt it will be anything like that.  I'm sure it will be an adult Lara, but it will be her first adventure and how she comes to doing this regularly.  Like A-Team that starts before the team is together, Casino Royale that starts before Bond has his double-O status, or like just about every super-hero movie/series that starts when they are an everyday person before they start saving the world.
However is it is as you said, that would be rather lame.
