Dislike Metal Gear Rising? Then wait for 'stealth MGS' sequel, says Kojima

Hideo Kojima has suggested that gamers who aren’t too fussed about upcoming action romp Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance should simply wait until the next stealth-based entry in the franchise comes along.
Rising was re-revealed at the Spike Video Game Awards on Saturday, with Bayonetta developer Platinum Games now at the helm after taking over from Kojima Productions.
However, the new trailer showcased a decidedly action-oriented flavour to the proceedings, which hasn’t sat too well with the hardcore Metal Gear aficionado.
Kojima has a solution, however – "patiently wait" until a true MGS sequel emerges.
“Had same kind of questions @today’s conf. Our ex-RISING also were aiming at feel good action w/ protagonist, Raiden as a Spin-off, not MGS & such concept was shared w/ New RISING by P*,” he wrote on Twitter.
“For those of you desire for authentic stealth MGS, I want you to patiently wait for the sequel coming in future.”
Metal Gear Rising is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012.

Im not a big hack'n'slash fan in my old age, so Rising doesnt appeal to me.
That being said, the original MGS was full of content that allowed your imagination to run wild. And although Rising isnt something that appeals to me, Im glad something spun from MGS like this. I personally (as I keep saying) want to see a tactical FPS game also come from it using Merryl & her team as the main characters, but with the high amounts of character control allowed with MGS4.

Im not buying it. If snake is not in it, not going to give it the time of day. It doesn't look like it's worth the crap either. No Snake, no buy. =)

this mnust have not been that big of a deal to be shown at spike VGAS plus right at the end, i think kojima should just stick to e3 and other gaming shows. therre shows are childish and i don't like there hosts. but, i'm skipping rising because its not a real MGS game

hey psu, stop saying "bayonetta developers platinum games" and start saying "vanquish developers platinum games" as that game is not only better but more acurately represents how platinum will handle rising. i really enjoyed vanquish and it reminded me a lot of mgs when i was playing it (for different reasons than stealth). yeah its a bummer that mgs rising lost its way, but i would rather have a rising game than none at all. atleast kojima has final say over what platinum does with it. people who are hating on it are most likely the ones who never understood rising never was gonna be like the traditional mgs games. the original concept was to be able to slice anything and though revengence might not let you chop up everythiing you see, it still looks like a fair amount of slicing is going on. hate the game before even giving it a chance if you want, just know its gonna be awhile before mgs5

I think this game is a breath of freash air, plus the hack"n"slash gameplay is idel for playing with cyber raiden. I love the hard core MGS games but I'm also looking forward to this one, give the game a chance before bashing it!

@5 I don't think that's the case considering he is the one overviewing ALL projects and has the final word on the Ideas, It's more like he's tired of the constant whining from the Unpleaseable Side of the Fanbase.
That being said I have faith in Platninum games because I have loved thier previous work And I hope this doesn't dissapoint.

@1 Im sorry but that game would fail pretty hard. There isn't enough appeal in a tactical fps shooter especially with only Meryl's Squadron. Not too many people would buy it unless the story were good and even so, it wouldn't be that great seeing as there would be little to no snake/story development in it (it would take place before MGS4, how much can they reveal besides what her team did?).
New Rising trailer looks like trash. It would be better if the combat was executed better against the pmcs. It was way too campy and looked more like something in Death by Degrees on Ps2 or something. Blech. In the original Rising trailer, I wasn't too fond of the ease with which you could chop enemies in half, but it looked a heII of alot better than this trash. I honestly am glad Kojima is denouncing it in a way. I'm starting to think that this new trailer was a serious thing and not one of his jokes. They may just cancel it though. For some reason I have a strong feeling they'll do that. -

So nobody is willing to give the game a chance? "Wah wah wah Snake isn't in it, i'm not buying it." People need to grow up and not turn into snotty nosed pratts when their favourite games have a change of direction or a spin-off made.
I agree with princevegeta1980, this game is a breath of fresh air!

Hideo said in his twitter that he does not want Rising to be anything like the previous mgs games.. I understand that some fans are pissed but at least give this game a shot.. Does Kojima deserves to do something different for a change? Give him a break..

@Honomaru
Well, its a given that the story & game layout must be good......thats what is needed for all games IMO.
There is plenty of room for a tactical FPS revolving around the MetalGear story & timelines....all the background history & events are already there. And its a spin-off, it does NOT have to involve Snake. If it involved Snake, then it owuld be MGS....not a spin-off.
FPS are generic..especially this gen. Generic, dull, restrictive & mind numbingly boring. BUT if you apply character movement as seen in MGS4 to a 1st person perspective, and have your team (Merryls team) follow a story path similar to MGS (plots, history & timeline), then you have a what could be a proper tactical shooter.....something sorely missing this gen.
Of course there is scope for a game like this........................and it would not fail if it is developed as well as it could be. Its not that hard considering much of the work already exists in MGS4. All it would require is its own story revolving around this team. It could even have its story intersect with that of MGS .
Some people lack imagination I guess.

I like how he destroys the game everytime he speaks of it, next time, he will call it "Metal gear random hack n slash" and that's what it'll be

@cheetor Kojima said the team working on MGR hit a roadblock with developing the gameplay, so they had to reboot it.
