Game streaming firm Gaikai reckons that Sony or Microsoft will cease manufacturing consoles once the current hardware generation wraps.

The company’s chief producer officer, Nanea Reeves, told Industry Gamers, "Not all of the current console makers will have one more generation. That will be the big news at E3."

Rumors have been pouring in this week regarding Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation efforts, with one report claiming PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 are to be unveiled at E3 in June.

Sony has publicly denied that it will be making such an announcement at the Los Angeles-based convention, however, while Microsoft is keeping mum on the subject of new hardware.

Stay tuned.

So a company whose business s to sell non physical media implies other companies would do the same? as for me it seems like an incentive to customers to follow the "non physical media" trend and get interested in their company. The Onlive and such can not work today as Internet speed and regular download/upload speeds are not sufficient for 90% of people.

Microsoft would use non physical media a lot in their next console for sure, as the revenue margin is much more profitable.

Non physical media must be stopped, we'll pay the same price (or about same) for a virtual thing we can't re-sell (or bring to a friends home or lend to a friend), that may be withdrawn from the servers without notice, the DLC for games is laready a steal (3$ for a fighting game character or a race track???).

Yeah, ok. Soooo, we suppose to beleive that, when this is coming from a video game streaming service?  Well, the way I look at it, if it wasn't for Sony, Nin, and M$, Gaikai would cease to exist. Personally, they should go on with their buisness, and keep their mouths shut. Gaikai got their one day of publicity, I think their happy.
