Id Software’s classic horror shooter Doom 3 will be hitting PlayStation 3 this fall in the shape of the BFG Edition, Bethesda has announced.

Doom 3 BFG Edition, also due out on PC and Xbox 360, offers a remastered version of the 2005 original, as well as expansions Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission, the latter of which adds seven new missions.

In addition to the above content, the BFG Edition features 3D support, 5.1 surround sound, enhanced rendering and lighting effects, plus an all-new checkpoint system. Furthermore, Trophy and Achievement support will be added to the PS3 and 360 version of the game, respectively.

Last but not least, Bethesda also confirmed the game will ship with the original Doom and its sequel.

Said id co-founder, John Carmack: “DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,”

“Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls.”

“New support for 3D TVs, monitors and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it," he added.

I am surprisingly happy to read this! Doom I, Doom ][, and Doom ]I[ on PS3!

I loved all three games, except for that stupid lamp boss in Doom ]I[, and look forward to seeing them in HD.

Wow, I was wondering when and if Doom would ever grace the ps3 at all and I have to say that i'm pretty excited. Here's my two questions though, Why not Doom 4? And last but certainly not least many upgraded versions of games have merely been substandard ported versions from previous consoles. So in terms of graphics, generally you would see the same graphics (basically) just enhanced to a 720p or 1080 picture resolution, which doesnt necessarily make games look much better. So my last question is, what will be done to ensure a great port of Doom 3 in terms of graphics?

Wow....this is freakin' great...I am so stoked for this!

I wonder if D3 will support MP or if it's just going to be the single player experience?

The obvious next step is to revamp the Quake series for console (maybe for the PS4?!?) I grew up on the Quake and Doom series for PC---Throw in MP and the greatest map of all time (DM3) and heaven will have arrived on earth!
