Assassin’s Creed movie to feature Michael Fassbender

Variety reports that the planned movie adaptation of Assassin’s Creed will be produced by Michael Fassbender.

In addition, the site claims that Fassbender, who is perhaps best known for his roles in Inglourious Basterds, Prometheus and X-Men: First Class, will also star in the film, which is based on Ubisoft’s 30 million-selling videogame series.

Fassbender will be teaming up with his DMC Film partner Connor McCaughan to co-produce the historical action-adventure, which will be helmed by Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of UMP, commented: “Michael Fassbender was our first choice. Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”

Sony Pictures was originally going to develop the movie before the project was put on hold. As such, UMP is now heading up the film independently and will attach its own writer and director, with a production and distribution partner to be determined at a later date.

Assassin’s Creed III, the latest instalment in the videogame series, is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 30, 2012.
