Rumor: Final Fantasy Versus XIII has been canned

Elusive PlayStation 3-exclusive RPG Final Fantasy Versus XIII has been cancelled, according to reports originating from Kotaku.
The website, citing “several sources,” claims that Square Enix decided to pull the plug on the game in the last few weeks, a move that was said to have saddened staff within the company.
Apparently we won’t get an official announcement either, as Square bigwigs have opted to quietly shelve the project.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII was originally announced at E3 2006, and has made sporadic appearances at industry events ever since. Last September it was confirmed the game had only just entered full production, so even if these rumors are false, it’ll be a while before we see the game in stores.
Unsurprisingly, Square is keeping mum on these reports, telling Kotaku: “We have no information on the status of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but will be sure to update you as it becomes available.”
Square is planning a special event for the Final Fantasy franchise later this summer, with one of the events focusing on Final Fantasy XIII and the Lightning story. However, from the look of things, none of the planned stage events will be centring on Versus XIII, so presumably we’ll hear nothing on the game at the shindig.

dear blind final fantasy fantasy fans who keep saying take your time on this game. this is how they reward you ppl for having the ridiculous patience of 6 years and only one gameplay video by just canning the whole project.

Simply : thank you Microsoft to ruin video gaming, your sad money made SE greedy and after making FFXIII pathetic, now FFvsXIII is canned because dealings to get it exclusive for X360 made development postponed again and again.

Microsoft probably paid to have the game shelved. Wouldn't be the first time Microcrap paid to punish gamers that don't own their garbage hardware.

Square Enix (or Squaresoft when they made good games) have let everyone down to much now.
Who actually cares about Square Enix now? Answer = No one. Why would you when better companies out there producing better games Skyrim / Dragons Dogma / Dragon Age Origins etc.
No - Square Enix you let every fan down with FF14 online (what a joke) and you went backwards when you made the utter trash that is Final Fantasy 13.
Square Enix - GET THIS INTO YOUR HEADS - NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU ANY MORE. AND THE GAMES YOU MAKE NOW ARE UTTER GARBAGE!
Me personally I'm hoping Square Enix goes bust in the next year or two.
Finally to my once favorite company Squaresoft you are now my most despised due to constant let down and lies I'd just like to say "F*** You Square Enix".

Lol, if true FFXHD will be the last FF that I buy, and quite possibly the last game from SE, the Tales of series has pretty much replaced FF as the biggest home console RPG series in Japan now, only a matter of time before the rest of the world follows.

If this news is true then I am definitely jumping on the "Square-hate" bandwagon. This is ridiculous. I don't think it is entirely canned but I am about 90% sure the game has lost its exclusivity at this point. Probably trying to scare gamers into thinking the game is lost forever so that when they announce that its still in development, the fans will be too distracted by the good news to care that its also releasing on the xbox 720 and 3ds or w/e else.
