Report: No Gamescom reveal for PS3-4000

Contrary to previous reports, Sony will not announce a new PlayStation 3 model – dubbed the super slim PS3 – at Gamescom next month, reports VG247.

According to a source close to the website, the PS3-4000 was indeed planned to be unveiled at the Cologne-based event. However, due to the fact stock for the current SKU remains too high, the company made the decisions to postpone the announcement.

However, the source added that the long-rumored 16GB 4000 model is the real deal, and will be based on flash memory. It’ll go head-to-head with Microsoft’s 4GB flash-based Xbox 360, and will have flip-lid disc input.

Furthermore, the unveiling of the new SKU “may” be joined by a substantial price cut, with the possibility that the entry model may retail for as low as £99.

@1- Yeah, flash memory is another form of memory, that can be used for storing data like a hard drive.(Nin Wii) There are a few dif's between the two, but one of the main is that flash memory doesn't offer huge amounts of storage, compared to hard drives.

Im not crazy about pop-top disk drives. >=( I hate to see what this thing is going to look like.
