55 percent of you think God of War III is better than Red Dead Redemption

Our Ultimate PS3 Showdown is in full swing, and with the first round of match-ups complete, we've had time to take a look at the results and dig a little deeper into what it all means.
One of the closest match-ups of them all was destined to be God of War III vs. Red Dead Redemption - a visceral, polished, totally epic PS3 exclusive set against a masterpiece of open-world design in a unique historical setting. It was close all the way to the bitter end, but when all the votes were in, God of War III came ahead with a clear majority - 55.43% to Red Dead's 44.57%.
Both of these games deserve heaps of praise, and are undeniably among the greatest titles of this generation. However, in selecting God of War III as the better game, PSU readers "thwarted the system". On aggregate ranking site Metacritic, Red Dead Redemption holds an absolutely stellar rating of 95 while God of War III's respectable 92 rating trails behind. Critics were clearly enchanted with John Marston's tale over Kratos' third quest, so why wasn't the same result reflected in our poll?
Perhaps the emotional attachment that gamers developed for Kratos over two prior adventures helped raise God of War III to new heights, heights unappreciated by critics without the same feelings. Perhaps the legion of PlayStation fans that PSU serves came out in full force to support an exclusive IP. Perhaps the Metacritic system is broken, and fails to provide an accurate picture of game quality by focusing only on the numbers.

GoW3 is better, RDR had some major flaws like how repetitve it was but most of all how boring it got riding to the objective only to have to slow down and wait for the AI to catch up.
But I must say I still remember one of my best moments on RDR (online), where 5members of a posse where all sitting around a fire in some valley. While I was up on the side of the mountain quite some distance away, I pulled out my sniper rifle and started killing them all. All I hear is an uproar on the mics "WHO THE **** IS SHOOTING US?"

I do not fall in that 55%. Red Dead Redemption was a better game in almost every way possible. God of War 3 was a great game too. But it was a great straight forward, set path, one dimensional game.

Red Dead is clearly better, I think. But the actual poll is for Ultimate PS3 game. In my humble opinion, God of War III should've won. After all, it's a PS3 exclusive. It makes more sense for an exclusive to be the winner I think. If it's Ultimate CONSOLE game, then RDR all the way. But is IS a PS3 contest. Just my two pennies.

Drebin - If that was the case, then there should not have been any games except PS3 exclusives in this contest. You just proved why I feel the polls were not very honest....People were choosing PS3 exclusives even when the other game was better.

Red Dead, hands down. GOW3 is eye candy, and a button masher, thats about all there is to it. Red Dead, well, you just have way, way more to do in it, nice high replay value. I didn't add the multiplayer part to it yet either! =)

all you saying RDR is better isn't that just your opinion? It's not a fact, i think GOW III is the better one but thats just my opinion. You can like whatever you want more it dosen't make it a fact.

I absolutely loved god of war 3 it's one of my favourite games, but red dead redemption is my favourite game of all time hands down. I finished the single player game three times, and even when i had finished it the last time to 100% i still wanted to play more.

Red Dead is a Western. That genre may not appeal to alot of gamers, just as an rpg may not appeal to a fan of shooters, and vice versa. GOW is a button masher. Easy to pick up and play, without having any concept whatsoever of the combo system. A child could play it and do serious damage. The flaw in any poll is that many of the "gamers" who cast votes have undoubtedly played one game or the other, but not both. Even if you could isolate that percentage, that would still leave an individuals preference for a particular style of game as a major factor. My favorite games this gen have been the Mass Effect trilogy, followed closely by the Uncharted series, Gears of War series, MGS4, etc. etc. Who cares. Play the games you enjoy. Near as makes no difference what others think if you enjoy yourself.

easy god of war 3, fun for 6 hours
red dead redemption fun for 25 hours
both games were not worth $60 but RDR was better.

I left a comment in the official voting thread explaining my decision, but as a short summary: both games disappointed me, but Red Dead Redemption was more boring, therefore I voted for God of War III.
@All of you getting butthurt and saying Red Dead Redmption should have won: Stop being in denial. Just because you thought a game was better, doesn't mean it was. Just look at the facts - 55% of the community preferred God of War III. Yes, you may think Red Dead is better and you are completely entitled to think that. But not everyone has the same opinion as you. God of War III won, the majority preferred it, that is a fact. That doesn't mean it is the best game in everyone's opinion! Look at it this way: it wasn't an absolute landslide with one game winning with 90% of the votes; it was very close. 55% to 45% is an incredibly close competition, and it could have gone either way, it was just that in this case, God of War won!
