Beyond seeks to surprise gamers, says David Cage

The CEO of developer Quantic Dream, David Cage, has revealed that he’s aiming to surprise gamers with his studio’s ambitious PlayStation 3-exclusive Beyond: Two Souls.

Speaking with Edge, Cage revealed that he’s not interesting in creating something fun, but rather wants to give players a meaningful experience.

"My goal is to surprise people, to give them something they want without knowing they want it," said Cage. "I want to create an emotional journey, a unique experience.

"I am not interested in giving them 'fun', I want to give them meaning; I don't want to challenge their thumbs, I want to challenge their minds."

Beyond was announced at E3 2012 and tackles the questions of what happens after death. The game stars Hollywood actress Ellen Page as Jodie Holmes, and takes us through 15 years of Holmes’ life as she is accompanied by a strange, supernatural entity.
