Assassin's Creed III won't have a multiplayer beta

Ubisoft will not host a multiplayer beta for Assassin’s Creed III, the company has confirmed.

Speaking with Xboxgamezone, Damien Kieken, game director at Ubisoft Annecy (the studio responsible for the multiplayer component of the upcoming historical action-adventure sequel), shed some light on the situation:

"A [mulitplayer beta] is something we want to do every year because we get community feedback that helps us tune the game. It is also a good reward for the community that has followed us from the beginning."

“Doing a beta takes a lot of time; we’d need to polish a version, submit it to the platform holders and support it when it’s out. And all the time put into the beta doesn’t go into the final game. Because we wanted to push so many things into the game, we took the hard decision to favour the final game content instead of doing a beta and we believe it will be favourable in the end.”

Elsewhere, Kieken let slip that the team has been working on AC III’s multiplayer since wrapping up Revelations last year, and that the company has “had growing support from Ubisoft Bucharest since Brotherhood and Ubisoft Shanghai since Revelations. Bucharest help us on some feature development and map building, while Shanghai aid us with some of the multiplayer characters.”

He also confirmed that AC III’s multiplayer will include a third ability slot “dedicated to ranged abilities,” plus the introduction of Wolfpack mode, described as the team’s “way of answering the community demand for a coop adventure experience in an Assassin’s Creed game.”

Assassin’s Creed III will be sneaking into shops on October 30, 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A PC and Wii U version will follow at a later date.

Revelations' multiplayer did improve over Brotherhood's, but certain aspects fell short; my main problem is the personas. Brotherhood's personas were all unique, distinguishable characters, and each stood out in its own way - in Revelations, however, they all looked too similar for my liking, and none of them were particularly memorable. I can remember every single persona in Brotherhood, and I liked the variety, but in Revelations they were too dull for my liking. Give us new, varied personas and I feel this will already be an improvement over Revelations.
