From the moment we began our Ultimate PS3 Showdown and embarked on a quest to unearth the greatest PlayStation 3 game ever through our community's votes, we knew that things would get heated. And heated they became. Discussion and debate raged over weeks of competition as our initial line-up of 32 games was narrowed down to 16, then eight, then four... until only two remained. Those two, as decided by the PSU community of readers, fans, and forum members, were God of War III and Heavy Rain.
These two PS3 exclusives really need no explanation. One is the most epic, ultra-polished action game of all time, and the other is a fresh breath of interactive awesome in a generation inundated with sequel burnout and tired genres. The contenders rose from their respective corners, each ready to fight for the title and your vote.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Best PS3 Game Ever is... GOD OF WAR III
Or is it simply the most popular? Many would argue that there is no such thing as objective quality; the emotions that build inside each of us and the feelings we develop for a particular game could have nothing to do with its innovation, or visual quality, or even storytelling. No, the mark of "quality" is a bit more personal than the solace offered through numbers and review scores. What about the indie title that helps you deal with the death of a loved one? Or the less-than-stellar summer release whose wiki you pore over because you find its mythology fascinating? Who's to say that games like these aren't the "Best PS3 Game Ever" - only you can decide that for yourself.
That said, we here at PSU Towers were happy to put on this tournament for fun and for prizes, and we're already looking ahead and figuring out how we can make the whole experience better for you. So, drop a line in our contest feedback thread and tell us what we did wrong (or right!). We're here to serve you, loyal reader, and your input is our most valuable commodity.
'Hold on a minute,' you say. "What about the free PS3 game?' That's right! Good catch. We promised a free PS3 game or pre-order for the PSU community member who scored the most points with his/her official contest entry. We asked you all to take a stab at predicting the Final Four, Championship Round, and Champion of our Ultimate PS3 Showdown, and you answered the call. We've checked and double-checked every entry, tallying points by our tiered scoring system, and we've arrived at our winner.
Congratulations to snova34z, who correctly predicted that God of War III would advance to the finals and win it all! snova34z scored a total of 7 points, a good margin above the 3-4 points many of you gathered.

Oh God, dead wrong lol. Not to say PSU did anything wrong. I think most of the people who voted, did so with tunnel vision though. GOW may have gotten the most votes but that doesnt mean the people who voted for it thought it was the best ps3 game ever. It was just able to beat out its competition in that specific rounf. These things are always sorta wonky imo. If you have GOW vs Let's Count Sand and then Demon's Souls vs Red Dead Redemption. GOW wins its showdown and lets say Red Dead wins its own. GOW may beat out Read Dead, but those same people probably think Demon's Souls is better than GOW.

I am sick of people saying your wrong and no it is not just get over it that is how the people voted so just move on and quit crying because the game you really liked did not win . And maybe a bunch of people here are god of war fans. I like god of war but there are better game out there but they all lost out on in the voting so get over it and move on.

I cant believe HEAVY RAIN knocked out METAL GEAR SOLID 4! <---- THATS THE ULTIMATE PS3 GAME !

At least MGS4, Uncharted 1 and 2 lost, those games are easily two of the worst games I've ever played. Look like garbage and play that way as well. Tried to play Uncharted 2 after Assasin's Creed and felt like I was playing on an original nintendo with how badly the character movement and jumps registered. I liked GOW, maybe not the best, but definatly better than those 3 godawful games.

It was pretty obvious that GOW was going to win. But, Its very depressing that MGS4 did not go to the final round. As for people who think GOW is not the best game everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I personaly own every game they showed on the list. I enjoyed GOW and MGS4 more than every other game on there. It always brought me back to play more. @Lianthus MGS4 looks like garbage? When that game came out it was at the pinnacle of next gen systems in terms of graphics and game mechanics. Saying it looks like garbage it sounds like youll say zelda from nintendo looks better than crysis 2. #Rolls eyes. Back to the topic, From the whole list of games i personally agree on the winner but thats just my opinion.

It's a brilliant game, graphically I feel it is the best console game i've ever touched. But does it beat the nostalgia overload of MGS4? Probably not. Uncharted 2 stands amongst these titles in my opinion. I've enjoyed GOW3, MGS4 and Uncharted 2 the most in this Playstation generation!

Outraged. This competition was almost definitely fiddled, as stated before, I know people that have created multiple accounts to get the games they like into the lead. No way would both Uncharted 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 go out before the final, especially since a good 95% of people predicted one of them to win; I heavily suspect this was the doing of someone that wanted God of War III to win, or would receive an improved chance of winning the game - not necessarily snova34z, but I'm highly certain that some people have been 'fiddling' with the polls. Regardless, there's nothing we can do now, the competition has concluded, and snova34z has won. Merely just some details that I've noticed in hindsight, and shall use to construct feedback for the editors.
Regarding the results, however, God of War III was certainly not the greatest game of all time. It was incredibly disappointing, and could have been improved vastly (I'd give it an 8/10 at best). Having said that, I understand that not everyone has the same opinion as me and I respect that. Had this game won fairly, I would kindly acknowledge that it earned the title of best game of all time, despite conflicting with my views, due to being the preferred choice of the majority. However, this was a result that I highly suspect was rigged, so I have no intentions of making such acknowledgements. Congratulations snova34z, I look forward to the next competition. It's just unfortunate that this one did not play out fairly.
