EA Labels president Frank Gibeau recently boasted that he had witnessed both next-generation consoles, and now the man behind EA brand management has told Bloomberg that PlayStation 4 will launch in 2013.

During the interview, Gibeau commented that hardware and software sales tend to flatten out towards the end of a console lifecycle. He said that new hardware is coming "in about a year's time", but when asked about the real names of PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720, Gibeau backed off, telling the interviewer that his lips are sealed by a non-disclosure agreement. He did say that rebuilding technology to leverage the power of PlayStation 4 is a big investment for EA this year, but the next-gen hints stop there.

Check out the full video interview over at Bloomberg, and let us know what you think of this release date in the comments below. Is 2013 too soon for PS4?

So where does it say Playstation 4?

All he said was that next-gen hardware is coming in about a year's time. He could as well refer to the Xbox 720.

@1 Gibeau indicated that the next cycle of hardware will begin in about a year's time. PS4 and Xbox 720 are the next cycle of hardware.

It could be the Wii U. Isn't that coming out next year? I'm pretty sure that ea makes games for Wii as well, so he could very well be talking about the Wii U. And no haters, about how the Wii U is not next gen, and blah blah.. It is just as much a console as the other 2.

Though a late 2013 date could be possible. That would put the PS3 at 7 years old, with just 3 years left to fullfill its 10 year lifecycle. I could see the PS3 selling for 3-4 more years, while the PS4 is out. If I remember correctly the PS2 was on sale and games were still coming out for like 2 years after the PS3 came out.

I think 2014 sounds more logical though, I guess only time will tell.

Hard to say when its going to be released...if previous rumors are tru and it started being worked on in 2010 then I can see 2013. I think it should wait until 2014

There is no Xbox 720, who made that up? It would be PS4 and Xbox 3 if anything.
