PS Vita sales mostly in line with expectations, says Sony boss

Sony CEO and President Kazuo Hirai has revealed that sales of PlayStation Vita are mostly in line with the company’s expectations.

Despite this, Hirai told Reuters that PS Vita was lagging behind somewhat in a few regions, though didn’t disclose any further details.

“Worldwide, the Vita is pretty much along where we would expect it to be, maybe trending behind in certain territories,” the executive said at IFA in Berlin this week.

Hirai assumed his current role at Sony on April 1, 2012, and has been with the hardware manufacturer for over 15 years now.

On the subject of PS Vita, Sony confirmed in early August that the handheld had sold 2.2 million units worldwide as of June 30. The device launched in Japan in December 2011 and arrived in Europe back in February.
