One of two new XCOM titles currently in the pipeline, XCOM: Enemy Unknown doffs its cap to the strategy-heavy gameplay of the original 1994 classic UFO: Enemy Unknown, and is currently in development at Firaxis Games.
Enemy Unknown features turn-based combat from a third-person perspective, with players keeping an eye on the battlefield via the RTS component known as Geoscape. Several different operatives will be selectable, including Assault, Support, Heavy Weapons and Sniper, with missions also packing sub-goals in addition to an overall objective.
The game is due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 on October 9 in the U.S. and in Europe on October 12. To whet your appetite, Firaxis has released a new gameplay walkthrough of Enemy Unknown for your viewing pleasure.
