Sony on Skyrim DLC: No promises, but 'everyone involved is trying their best'

Several days ago, Bethesda broke silence on Skyrim DLC on PlayStation 3, or rather, the lack thereof. In an official forum statement, Global Community Lead Gstaff let PS3 Skyrim owners know that Bethesda may not be able to solve technical issues that have plagued Skyrim since release. In short, the vampire-themed Dawnguard expansion and future DLC may never come to PS3.

Adam Boyes, Head of Publisher Relations with Sony Computer Entertainment America, spoke to Kotaku about Bethesda's PS3 incompetency and when we can expect this DLC to arrive. "We work with all of our partners to try and solve their problems," he said. "We have broad dev support team that works closely with Bethesda . . . to solve that any sort of issues they have along the way."

It's heartening to hear, but what Boyes says next is far from good news. "I can't promise any kind of resolution or timeline but can say that everyone involved is trying their best to get this stuff going."

If Sony is working with Bethesda, but Bethesda is still at a loss for how to make Dawnguard work on PS3, then we could be in for a rougher ride than expected. Let us know what you think of these developments in the comments below - Should Bethesda offer some kind of recompense for jilted PS3 owners?

Thats What happens when a company doesnt do anything to optimize their engine for there customers. People shouldn't be supporting this company nor sony. They are crooks and i cant believe they get away with this.

betheda is pathetic. I love their versions of the fallout series and oblivion/skyrim are great too, but from the very first games they made on this engine they've never worked right. a part from standard texture glitches and the like, there has always been a problem with large save files freezing up the game and DLC doing the same thing. Most of the DLC for New Vegas is unplayable unless you have a tiny save file. It was apparent to Bethesda that this was a problem and they supplied the excuse of save file size.... so if you can identify at least one major problem with your coding... don't you think you'd go and fix it? possibly change its behavior completely.... instead they slink on by waiting for the next gen, so they can have another engine (which i hope they put some real effort into) to code on, and they hope everyone will kinda forget about this gen's engine problems. Way to bone your fans, what they should do is offer the PC version of the game, and DLC if you bought it already, for free to ps3 owners who have the ps3 version. Then, at least, some people who have a PS3 and a good PC rig can still play it.

Should Bethesda offer some kind of recompense for jilted PS3 owners? I think I like the sound of me keeping my $60 and spending it on devs that have engines that work properly. Sure PS3 has split ram, and is "harder to develop for".. but its been 6years now, can we seriously let them continue with that excuse for giving us crappy ports? Most games aint as big as skyrim, but theres a few that are close and run fine. I'm curious if they made PS3 the lead platform.. would they be having this issue? (since its been proven in the past, PS3 as lead = more on par game across platforms)

I have a Xbox (and it is a far inferior console) why can't they get this going on PS3 it amazes me. The PS3 is a more powerful machine - And it plays the WHOLE Skyrim game, so why not a small DLC.

Excuses (Bethesda are getting worse than SquareEnix).

They could compensate their lack of incompetence by showing a shred of interest for their playstation community an get their act togheter. They created so much hype for this game before it released and now they can't port it correctly for the PS3. YOU'VE HAD 6 YEARS ON LEARNING THIS, and you seem to be the only company that can't handle this. I'm so ****ing tired of being treated like a second class citizen when I used to love all their games, I'm boycotting all their products until they at least fix this issue. Shouldn't had released a BROKEN product in the first place.

This is the case, when developers slack in learning new architecture. Hate to see what the future holds for development for next gen, because this gen has been a joke so far, worst one yet. =(

One of the most incompetent devs out there inmy opinion. The PS3 has been out for almost 6 years and Bethesda still can't come to grips with the system which is pretty pathetic. They seem like they don't want to advance as technology does. If things become to hard they just give up and put out a shoddy product to get what they can in sales. God help them when the PS4 comes out.

The article states that Sony is involved.

There are things the PS3 just can't do because of Sony's decision to go with split RAM and a large operating system that eats further into the usable memory.

That's why PS3 owners will never have cross game chat

Why do ppl act like Bethesda is the only developer to have difficulties.  Other developers have cut features on PS3 games to make them run...anyone remember the lack of grass in Mafia 2 compared to the 360 version.

Why don't ppl read technical anaysis such as "lensoftruth" or Eurogamer's "Face-off" series.  There are hundreds of reviews that look at frame rates, resolution, texturing, ambient occlusion, particle effects, etc etc, and the PS3 is usually paired back. So any attempt at saying that this is unique to Bethesda is BS.

Actually i can tell you something very interresting if you want to know.

In u.s and u.k law we have laws that protect the consumer if they dont release the dlc for the ps3 they can be openly charged in federal court here in washington for  failure to provide service and support for a product and even worse product rigging which would really put a bust in sony bethesda and even the 360 version of the game
