505 Games and Engine Software have confirmed that indie hit Terraria is hitting PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade in early 2013.

The brainchild of Andrew Spinks, Terraria originally hit PC in 2011 and received rave reviews from critics, scooping the #1 spot on the 2011 Indie of the Year Player Choice on IndieDB.

Terraria eventually flogged over 1.6 million copies and takes the form of a 2D RPG adventure with a dollop of crafting and construction thrown in for good measure, which is probably why people have occasionally compared it to Minecraft.

"I can't say how excited I am to finally have Terraria come to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3!" commented Spinks. "To see it come so far is a complete shock, especially after such humble beginnings. It's always been my dream to have as many people as possible know and enjoy Terraria as much as I have, and this is another big step in that direction!

"It's been awesome working with 505 Games, and I can't wait for everyone to see the additional features that they've been able to bring to this new edition of the game."
