BioWare has officially confirmed development of Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, the latest entry in the critically-acclaimed fantasy RPG series.

According to a post on the company’s blog, Dragon Age 3 has been in development for about two years, though things ramped up considerably some 18 months ago.

Dragon Age 3 is being developed by a team comprised of both new and veteran developers, many of which who have been involved with the franchise since its inception with Dragon Age: Origins.

The game will support a new engine, with DICE’s Frostbite 2 used as a foundation for the tech. The new engine will allow the developers to craft more expansive worlds, improved visuals, offer more customisation and additional reactivity to player choices.

Dragon Age 3: Inquisition is due out in late 2013. Platforms have yet to be announced. See below for the full post from BioWare's Mark Darrah.

"I am pleased to confirm that we are, in fact, working on the next Dragon Age game. Not a big surprise to most of you, I know. We have been working on it in some way for about two years now with the bulk of our efforts ramping up about 18 months ago.

"Part of that effort has involved you, our fans, and the feedback you've provided for Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, and their DLC. We've visited message boards, read reviews, and we've gone to events to have direct face to face conversations with some of our most passionate fans. We've been listening, and we will continue to listen.

"Recently, I said that we didn't want to talk about Dragon Age III unless we had something to show. I'm trying to stick to that plan and won't be revealing much today. That said, a lot of information and rumors have surfaced recently and we don't want to hide from them. There are a BUNCH of things that I really want to share with you but I want to do this right, and doing it right requires some more time."

Dragon age 2 was amazing! And so far ahead of Origins. I found Origins to be pretty much unplayable.

This hopefully will be as good as Origins (forget DA2 that was rubbish).

I'm hoping this is an Open World like Skyrim, but with the epic story telling of DA Origins - That would make a perfect game.  I'd like to see the combat system of DA Origins but with a few new things and definatly not DA2 (flashy with no substance).

Also to be fair to Bioware, we will not be screwed over DLC like Bethseda has done to us.
