Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto III will be released on PlayStation Network on September 25, according to Sony’s Hong Kong PlayStation website.

Store updates for this particular region are generally day-and-date with its U.S. counterpart, so hopefully if all goes well we can expect the open-world crime juggernaut to turn up next week.

GTA III was originally supposed to hit Sony’s online service a while back, but was pulled at the last minute due to music licencing issues.

Released on PlayStation 2 in 2001, GTA III marked the series’ transition from top-down action-shooter to fully-fledged 3D adventure. The game attracted rave reviews from critics and sold millions of copies worldwide, making it one of the most successful titles of last-gen.

Hopefully we’ll get an official confirmation on the release date from Rockstar soon, so stay tuned.

I really would love a San Andreas release on PSN. I'd rather them all have full-trophy support though instead of being PS2 Classics ;(

Already have it on the PS2 and PC but a great game nonetheless.
