Media Molecule teases mystery R&D project

Media Molecule’s secret R&D project has been described by the LittleBigPlanet developer as both “scary” and “exhilarating.”

Studio co-founder Alex Evans dropped the tease during a chinwag with EDGE magazine (via CVG), where he confirmed that the company is now divided into three groups: Tearaway, the studio management team, and a second “unannounced R&D project.”

The mystery title, Evans says, is poised to “completely reimagine how people can create.”

"An interesting thing about Media Molecule is that we actually enjoy tearing everything up and doing something we couldn’t have imagined doing before," he said.

"That’s the positive of all this. As a studio, we want to keep everything fresh. We don’t want to be known as just the LittleBigPlanet studio, much as we love that. I think of Media Molecule more as creative gaming.”

"For Tearaway, we’ve imagined creative gaming within a much more gamey game. For the R&D project, it’s creative gaming; go back to those two words and completely reimagine how people can create. It’s scary, but it’s exhilarating."

Media Molecule unveiled its latest title, Tearaway, during Sony’s Gamescom press conference in August. Up until now the studio has been busy with the LittleBigPlanet series, which saw two major entries on PlayStation 3, plus a PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita offering.
