Beats Slider Review

PlayStation Mobile is Sony’s entry into the weird and very lucrative world of software developed for mobile devices. The games and apps designed for PS Mobile are compatible with the PlayStation Vita and Android powered devices from Sony and HTC, with support for more devices in the future. One of the biggest supporters of this new initiative is FuturLab, the developer of the rather wonderful PS Mini title Velocity. Futurlab has released two PS Mobile titles at launch, the first of which is Beats Slider.

Beats Slider is a puzzle game which requires you to slide blocks into the correct sequence. There are different coloured blocks which have a pattern on them which you have to get in the correct row in the correct order. When a block is in the correct position it will light up and add something to the music that is playing in the level. Completing the level plays the song with all the instruments and notes playing together. Each level has a gold, silver and bronze time to complete the level; however if you don’t achieve any of them you don’t fail the level, rather you don’t receive a medal colour.

Once you have completed any given level there is a Remix mode version, which allows you to place any block in any position and lets you experiment with the music track to play it in different ways. You can do this with the 15 levels included in the game. The game isn’t the easiest if you aren’t an absolute wizard at sliding puzzle games and if you aren’t, you’ll probably think that getting the fastest times in the levels will be nigh on impossible. They obviously aren’t, but I imagine only people who love these types of games will get close to the gold times.

There’s not much else to it really. For very little money, if you like slide puzzle games then you’ll love Beats Slider. If you don’t then you probably should avoid it. Beats Slider is available now exclusively on PlayStation Mobile.
