Sony cuts Q2 forecasts on back of poor game sales

Sony has revealed that lagging game sales and the less-than-stellar performance of its PlayStation Vita format at retail have resulted in the firm slashing its Q2 financial forecast.
The hardware giant originally forecast combined sales of 16 million for PS Vita and PlayStation Portable worldwide, though that figure was then reduced to 12 million. No sales breakdown for each format was given, however.
Now, the company expects a combined sell-through of 10 million units by March 31, 2013.
Elsewhere, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 projections sit at 16 million, though software sales declined by 15.8 per cent year-on-year.
Overall, Sony posted a financial loss of 15.5 billion yen ($198 million) though nonetheless the figure still represents an improvement over last year’s 27 billion yen. A major contributing factor is sure to be the fact PS3 is no longer selling at a loss for the console maker.
