Final Fantasy Type-0 localization now up in the air

In a recent interview with GameSpot, Final Fantasy Type-0 Scenario Director Hajime Tabata revealed that Square Enix was taking a "clean slate” with Final Fantasy Type-0's localization outside of Japan. He cited this was due to "market reasons."
Before you throw away any dreams of playing Type-0, Tabata also added, “We feel strongly about bringing this title to the fans in North America and Europe, so if an opportunity arises that can become a conclusive factor, we are prepared to go into consideration right away.” So there is not a definite no, but not a definite yes either.

There had been speculation in the past that Type-0 would be released on PlayStation Vita in North American and Europe. It would be the best option for the localized release, given it'd be an opportunity to push Sony's newest portable and fix the game's shortcomings, such as graphics and controls.

Tabata did mention that he wishes ad-hoc and a co-operative play "where players could help each other at any time" were in Type-0. Other changes he would like to add include making the story more comprehensible and adjusting the game's leveling curve and balance of the magic.

How do you feel about this latest development? Like many, I have been waiting for Type-0 for a long time. After so much critical acclaim and being voted the #10 game that made Japanese gamers cry, Final Fantasy Type-0 would be a great loss to players outside of Japan if it never receives localization.

hestar, I would put my money down that it becomes a Vita enhanced remake if it even makes it over to NA & Europe. Here's hoping.

Nothing stupid about looking before you leap. It would be a welcome addition to the vita line up as long as it's not download only.

Japanese should rethink all this : Japanese games are not for Japan only, localization should be part of the process from the beginning

Square Enix has been disappointing more and more lately. First they aren't smart enough to exclude the online titles from the main franchise numeration, which is completely annoying and unreasonable.

Then they release an unfinished and unpolished FF13. Then they keep making milking titles like the tons of re-releases of older titles. Then they keep milking you by letting you buy older soundtracks for games like Dissidia and Theatrhythm, soundtracks you probably already have bought.

But the milking doesn't stop there. Stuff, which before would have been included with the game by default now has to be bought as DLC (optional battles and costumes in FF 13-2). And what do they release for their anniversary title? A rhythm game which in Square's good times would have been a mere minigame within a proper title.

Now they can't even manage to freaking get Type 0 released. Oh right, and then they put up a mysterious teaser page for another big title which turns out to be a browser game. Way to go Square Enix. This is what they do nowadays, recycle where they can, save money where they can and milk the customer as much as possible.

Wake up people and realize that Square Enix is nothing like what Squaresoft or Enix have been in past times. Square Enix is a company that gives a damn about its customers wishes and is mainly interested in maximizing its profit in any possible way.
