Sony: Hack the PS3, get banned for free

Sony doesn't take kindly to hackers, what with all those PSN issues and PSP custom firmware. With the release of the PlayStation 3 lv0 bootloader key leak comes the ability to hack Sony's black warhorse to play online with real, non-hacking users. Sony has since issued a statement on the subject.

Sony said in the statement that anyone caught running unauthorized or pirated software may have access to the PSN and Sony Entertainment Network "terminated permanently." Perhaps it should come as no surprise that if you hack Sony's console, the game giant will do everything in its power to ban you.

Here's the statement from Sony:

"Unauthorized software for the PlayStation 3 system was recently released by hackers. Use of such software violates the terms of the 'System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation®3 System' and the 'Terms of Services and User Agreement' for the PlayStation®Network/Sony Entertainment Network and its Community Code of Conduct provisions."

"Violation of the System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 system invalidates the consumer's right to access that system. Consumers running unauthorized or pirated software may have their access to the PlayStation Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services through PlayStation®3 system terminated permanently."

The consumer alert goes on to state that, "To avoid permanent termination, consumers must immediately cease using and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems."

"In order to help provide a safe, fair, online environment, consumers who we believe violate 'Terms of Services and User Agreement' for the PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network or the applicable laws or regulations of their country or region risk having access to the PlayStation Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services terminated permanently."

So, do you think Sony is taking the right steps to punish hackers, or are you in the boat that believes once you buy a console, you have the right to do with it whatever you want? Let us know in the comments below.

The console is yours the software is their's, if you use illegitamate software then they have the right to refuse you the services that use that software. It's as simple as that. You want to use pirated software then dont expect to use it with the people who are using the real thing.

Good news, and I hope they stick with it fully and longterm & punish those bastards that would ruin the online experience for honest gamers.

Cheating scum might argue that they have a right to do with the products they purchase, but when online entertainment is affected for other consumers, then that changes. Time to met out some harsh concequences for gaming cheats.

We all make mistakes, its just a simple case of not proof-reading more than anything. To cause an argument over simple spelling doesn't say anything good.....

(Proof reading iz ur frend) ;)

The only thing that shocks me is the terme "may have", people violating Sony products should be banned, especially when they ruine online experience for thoes that have paied their software.

@Digital Beast - "Seen it many times"

It should read "I've seen it....." or without the contraction, "I have seen it"

All I can say is: Good Luck Sony. ;D

The only ones who're gonna get a ban from this are those morons who played BO2 before the release date and they deserve it for their own stupidity.

The on going game of hacking will never stop. Sony comes out with more updates, hackers find other techniques to break through them. =)
