Analyst calls for PS Vita price cut

Billy Pidgeon, an analyst with Inside Network, has called for Sony to take a leaf out of Nintendo’s book and cut the price of PlayStation Vita.

Speaking with NowGamer, Pidgeon argued cutting costs is necessary in order to give PS Vita a shot at success, warning that publishers aren’t going to invest in the machine if the installed base doesn’t increase dramatically.

"Although the hardware is high quality, Sony may need to follow Nintendo's lead and cut price drastically next year if the installed base remains below five million or the platform will not be viable for publishers," he said.

"Also the proprietary memory cards for PS Vita are prohibitively expensive. There should be more downloadable software, including inexpensive or free games, and these must be higher quality than popular iOS and Android games," he continued. "It would in fact be helpful if the best and most popular smartphone and tablet games were also available for download to PS Vita."

Despite this, Pidgeon observed that both the quality of games and sales for PS Vita are starting to improve.

"PS Vita sales are improving, but could be much stronger. The software library is improving – there are some very good triple A third party exclusives like Persona 4 Golden and Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, and there are some very good downloadable titles like Sound Shapes and Escape Plan – extending PlayStation Plus subscriptions to PS Vita also helps to add value."

as a ps vita owner it's seriously sad to see such good piece of hardware rotting with no sales improvements and an issue completely ignored by sony. it's an amazing piece of hardware with it's power superior to 3ds, yet if they don't make drastic steps this handheld is going to be the biggest fail of consoles. Why would someone make games on console that has 2.5 million units sold to a console that has 23million units sold..

I agree with 1 on here. I have had my Vita since June and I have played a total of 3 games for it that has interested me " no i don't have plus yet but I will soon enough and I'm sure i''ll find a few more game I like for it" I have Uncharted, Mortal Kombat and I played Resistance on it. They are great games on there. The main game i really picked the Vita up for besides Uncharted is Assassin's Creed. I love my Vita but it's sadly just been sitting in its case untouched for months now. Maybe when Sony allows the Vita to live up to it's expectations I may pick up my Vita once more.

I have the 3G PS Vita (bought in may), I either play or use it for MP3/video, rarely for internet. But having more people buying it sure would help developers raise interest and develop great games for it.

Price cuts happen when the components and manufacturing costs are cheaper and allow for the company to sell for a profit, which we have no control on or any way to predict.

I have one too and all I have to say is a waste of my money. I cant believe that Sony did this again, I still have a little hope for my Vita and hope to use it again one day.
