Sony says PS Vita sales are at 'low end of what we expected'

Sony Corporation head honcho Kazuo Hirai has touched base on the state of PlayStation Vita’s global sales.
Speaking at CES (via the Wall Street Journal), Hirai admitted the high-powered handheld’s sales are “at the low end of what we expected.”
However, despite PS Vita not selling as well as Sony had hoped, Hirai observed it is too quick to judge its success until the device has been on sale for at least five years.
“Long-term is what is important,” he insisted.
Since last April, Sony has opted to combine sales of PS Vita with its predecessor, the PlayStation Portable, rather than cite individual sales. However, it did let slip that PS Vita had moved 1.8 million units as of May 2012, described by Hirai as “a good start.”
The hardware giant has forecast PS Vita and PSP to have sold a combined total of 10 million for the full financial year ending March 31. The company’s Q3 financial report, which covers the lucrative Christmas period, is due in early February.

of course, people now are brainless - and slaves to advertisement - they prefer buying the "trendy" thing (= Nintendo crapware) rather than think a bit and get some info on whichever product is better

It's a shame because the Vita is truelly an excellent piece of hardware and the few games on the console are excellent (except the short Resistance and the BS black ops), I have no regrette in paying 250€ for the Vita. Hope to see games like Killzone and GOW on the Vita.

Oh Kaz, you need to get real and lower the price, lower the mem card price OR create some really enticing bundles.
I lovemy Vita. Everyone who actually OWNS one knows that it is a beautiful and capable piece of tech. The only thing letting it down now is the price.
PS+ IGC for Vita was a genius move. -

Lower the price to $200 and it will fly off the shelves. I think the reason for no price drop is it would upset those who spent $250-$300 on the first edition bundle and 3G bundle. Plus the memory cards are $$$ like a 16GB is $100! Just look at Nintendo they had the 3DS at $250 and it was selling poorly, they dropped it to $169.99 and people are buying it for that price. I want a Vita but could wait it out till something else than Killzone comes out for it. Would really want a new God of War, Syphon Filter, Resident Evil, on that system.

Well yeah. When it costs a fortune for memory sticks that cost about a buck normally, of course no one is going to buy it.

I'd buy Vita in a heartbeat if they either lowered the price of the memory sticks or announced a model with internal memory (preferably 32gig). I hope Sony dedicates a larger slot to Vita at this year's e3, would be great if they did actually announced orbis next month, it'd help them balance out their e3 presentation for all of their devices.

My Vita is having a long holiday inside its hard case. No good new games, not even new demos, everything is nearly the same as it was last year. Very little upcoming too. Looks like it'll remain inside hard case untill Killzone comes out :(
