BioWare says Dragon Age III is 'stunningly beautiful'

BioWare has teased that gamers can expect Dragon Age III: Inquisition to pull some mighty punches in the graphical department.

Chatting with OXM, Neil Thompson touched on how the Frostbite 2 engine has allowed the team to craft some stunning visuals for the fantasy RPG sequel.

Previous games ran on BioWare’s own Eclipse engine, which Thompson admitted was starting to show its age by the time Dragon Age II arrived on store shelves.

"Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 were both done using BioWare's own Eclipse engine, and it was starting to creak a little bit when Dragon Age 2 came out," he said. "Inquisition is being done on the Frostbite 2 engine and it is an astonishingly powerful engine."

"The Dragon Age artists were always slightly disappointed at how their work was visualised in the final product with Eclipse, but with Frostbite, they've just done some amazing stuff,” added Thompson.

"There was a pre-production period where almost on a weekly basis I'd be sitting in the environment reviews and being blown away by what was coming out - it looks stunningly beautiful. So I think when we do start releasing screenshots, people won't be disappointed."

Thompson went on to say how BioWare is attempting to differentiate Dragon Age III from the “subdued colour palette” of other fantasy titles, questioning, “Can you make fantasy beautiful in a different way? We think we have something special for our Dragon Age II: Inquisition.”

Dragon Age III is in the early stages of development and is expected to arrive at some point in 2014. It is also rumored the game will be released for Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles.

Whatever, we where told our game saves would matter now they talking next gen and they wont. So a character we have created and forged in two games, making choices on who lives day, what companions may have left us does not matter if they release it for next gen.

DA:O didn't 'look' midblowing, the depth of character and story (quality) is what had me hooked, similar to Mass Effect. they forgot this in DA2, hopefully they remedy it in 3
