Core Vigil staff snapped up by Crytek

Crytek has acquired a chunk of developer Vigil’s ‘core staff’ after the studio failed to attract a buyer during last week’s auction of THQ properties.

The staff will form part of a new studio based in Austin, Texas by the name of Crytek USA Corp. Boasting some “35 experienced developers,” the company will be fronted by David Adams, former general manager and co-owner of Vigil.

THQ’s Jason Rubin revealed that a large majority of the staff involved in the move come from Vigil’s core team.

“Great news for Vigil, at least the core team," Rubin Tweeted. "Thanks to Crytek for saving as much as they could of a fantastic team.” He went on to add that “The Darksiders and Red Faction IP have not been auctioned yet.”

Darksiders II was released in August 2012 and had to sell two million copies in order to break even.
