The CEO of Ubisoft Montreal has confirmed that the Prince of Persia franchise has been “paused” for the time being.

Speaking during an interview with IGN, Yannis Mallat revealed that the status of the venerable action-platform series boils down to brand management.

"Brand management is a tricky thing. It needs people's attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused."

Despite this, Mallat reassured fans that the brand remains an important part of Ubisoft’s portfolio. Furthermore, it is common practice for the company to give franchises some down time to breathe.

"I'm not scared at all for Prince of Persia fans," he said. "Well find something to entertain them with in the future. Prince of Persia is part of Ubisoft's portfolio. As a matter of fact, we sometimes iterate on franchises and sometimes we give them time to breathe and time to grow, or time to rest.”

"Prince of Persia is as important as any other franchise for Ubisoft. As soon as we have something to show, we will."

The last game in the series, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, was released in 2010 to luke warm reviews. Images purported to be a series reboot surfaced last year, though nothing has materialised since.

Stay tuned.

the last entry didn't do any favours to the original. whereas the fisrt (modern) captured my imagination, the last one came across as dry :-|

Unless they make a sequel to the 2008 reboot, I want them to leave Prince of Persia alone - and this is coming from one of the series' biggest fan! Although, like a lot of people, I would rather another Prince of Persia than another Assassin's Creed (and again, I was one of the biggest fans of the original!)
