Capcom brands Resident Evil 6 a 'failure' in Q3 results

Capcom has announced that Resident Evil 6 has sold 4.8 million units worldwide since its launch in October 2012.

Unfortunately, the game was branded a “failure” by the industry giant, having struggled to maintain sales momentum following its release. The action-horror title was originally forecast to move seven million copies.

The Japanese publisher confirmed the figures during its Q3 financial report, which covers the period April – December.

Capcom recorded net sales of 72.69 billion yen during this period, accounting for a year-on-year increase of 44 per cent. Net income reached 6.64 billion yen, while operating income rose 45.9 per cent to 9.83 billion yen.

Despite disappointing sales of RE6 however, Capcom said that both Dragon’s Dogma and Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) G Best Price! performed well.

Said the company: “Despite recording brisk sales when it debuted, [Resident Evil 6] subsequently lost its momentum, resulting in the failure to achieve planned sales and fulfill its role as a driver of sales expansion.”

“On the other hand, “Dragon’s Dogma” (for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) enjoyed popularity exceeding expectations in the more profitable domestic market, becoming a million-seller unprecedented among recent new brand games developed and published by the Company. Additionally, the lower-priced ‘Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) G Best Price!’ for Nintendo 3DS also enjoyed steady growth.”

Resident Evil 6 proved perhaps the most polarizing entry in the long-running series to date, though PSU.com still found it to be a solid, if slightly generic action game.

I stopped buyng capcom games on release after re5. I would rather wait for the gold edition to get all the content at once and I'm sure many others do aswell. Look at all the verions of street fighter and marvel v capcom and now dragons dogma with dark arisen being released.__Capcom have built up a reputation that first day purchashers will get less game for more money which will only hurt sales.
