Square's Luminous engine is absolutely stunning, new screens show off PS4's power

If nothing else, the Agni's Philosophy tech demo showcased by Square Enix at E3 2012 confirmed that Final Fantasy's future will be jaw-droppingly gorgeous. A set of new Luminous engine screens, detailing everything from hair dynamics to specular lighting, corroborate this fact and have me positively aching for a PS4 reveal at the PlayStation Meeting on February 20.
The images come courtesy of 4Gamer, who has also compiled a series of Square Enix PowerPoint slides over a multi-part series that breaks down the stunning technology at work. After taking a peep at the images below, drop a comment and tell us if you're impressed by the technology that will almost certainly power next-gen Final Fantasy games.

Beautiful. Even if the first FF game to use this engine is another unwanted spin-off, I can't wait to see it in action.

If Square-Enix was waiting for this engine to make and release Final Fantasy Versus 13 and Kingdom Hearts 3, then I would actually not mind the wait..

@4 If you're actually looking forward to FFv13 that much, then you should have seen some footage of it. It being a PS3 title rules out this engine, basically. It may have been used, but the details would just be lowered to the point of it not looking anything like this tech demo. Stupid. Kingdom Hearts 3 with this engine, yes, could be simply amazing! I hope it does come out, uses this engine, and will be a magical experience. Still, too bad number 3 wasn't made for the PS3, as even the PS2 games were real nice looking. Would also have given PS3 a shot in the arm, if it was an exclusive.

Muzikguy you are wrong, CG Target renders have been shown before which haven't matched the final games. However a Technical Demo is runnng off hardware and fully represents what the games will look like. This is why Final Fantasy XIII looked as good if not better than the Final Fantasy VII tech demo they showed for the PS3.

Muzikguy is right.
Every gen starts with the same "amazing" visuals, and like every generation, you will never see those visuals in game.
The difference between having visuals running on a screen is far far different to having programming running in a game & dsiplayed on a screen. Don;t expect to see these visuals in a game or you will be severly disappointed.

have to see it moving, and if it's just cinematic or real game engine
Huge pixel detail is not my thing, I don't want to play a game to see érealistic" things, I want to escape

That's true, I wan't to see real life in-game footage, not screen shots of cinematics, especially comming from square. Still got seven days to go!

i'm going to say this..the PS4 had better have ALL games come out with 1080p support or I'm going to be mad. don't tout a consoles power and not push it hard in the first place..Sony..your mission is to release ALL games with 1080p support just like what Microsoft does with all of their games..got it? good. now get it done.

@WayFastWhitey It's not like upresing does any favors to xbox 360 games. In fact it degrades them.

Anyone who hasn't seen the video in motion can see it here: http://youtu.be/nv4Boq4HLKU
But that said it's a tech demo rooning on a completely unspecified hardwareset up that may or may not be equivolent to the next gen hardware. Even if this is possible on the PS4 it's up to developers to use it properly and we've already seen that they can be lazy with the current gen. You can give develoeprs all the tools in the world to offer things like custom sound tracks, voice chat and even 1080p support but if a developer isn't willing to make a use those options you can't force them without seeming like a tyrant or them rebelling and simply not doing it while stating artistic license.

@14- The 360 doesn't do 1080p. Just because your tv says its in 1080p, doesn't mean its doing it. Oh, and also the 360 was tested back in 2006, and 2007 on video output, and was proven that it can't do that resolution. Theirs no hardware in the 360 that is HD, except the HDMI port, which you can practicly put in any video device that has the video controller chip on the main board to support it. =)
