With the PlayStation Meeting only a few days away and hype for a possible PlayStation 4 reveal intensifying, leaks and rumors run amok. Most recently, the Times got ahold of some interesting information regarding the supposed price of Sony's new console.
According to the Times (paywall), leaked internal documents make mention of PS4's possible price point. The documents mention that PlayStation 4 will be sold around £300 (Roughly $399 USD). That is one-quarter less than PlayStation 3's launch price tag of $599, back in 2006.
It is great to see Sony take everyone's financial situation into consideration and aim to price PS4 in a more reasonable range. With only two more days until February 20 and PS4's probable reveal, it may not be long before we know for sure.
Tell us what you think of this potential price point--is it too much, too little, or just right? Leave your comments below, and stay glued to PSU on Wednesday to watch Sony unveil the future of PlayStation in our official livestream.

I think $400 is right on the money. I just don't see Sonys new console being over that with todays economy. Keeping my fingers crossed! =)

I think if thats true then I dont think I could complain too much. The price of the PS3 was that high because he blu ray tech was newer, and it was backwards compatible. I will wait to see what features it has/is capable of other than some some better graphics. In terms of the graphics I would hope and expect a marginal difference in graphics from the PS3 to the ps4 and not slightly better grapics for the rumored price.

I prefer quality over price, i am willing to spend up to $800 on a new console, heck I spent $550 on the vita at launch and it was worth it cuz of all the tech and features. $400 has me worried. I hope it supports 4K display and atleast 64 player online and atleast 120 frames per second with a 1TB hard drive, faster load times and multi-tasking, cloud gaming and saves, better non gaming features including better video support, file transfer, and a browser like Chome. Please dont cut corners to appeal to cheaper prices, the vita is cutting edge, I expect nothing less than a new console that can remain worthy in 8 years, the PS3 is still a great system, if people can't afford an update because of the cost of entry they will still enjoy the PS3, people like myself expect a leap in tech, not a new number and minor upgrades. EDIT: another great feature would be an Google Play app store. Make me owning a PS4 replace my notebook, cable box and DVR, mouse and keyboard support is also good (had a wireless keyboard for my xbox360) but have it work with all games if people desire that sort of thing, would be epic for RPGs like skyrim to use a keyboard and mouse, also be great for FPS

U guys gotta remember with the ps3 blu-ray was a new disc format and the devs were prob not used to having that much space. Now that blu-ray has been around for a while its cheaper to make and manufracture blu-ray discs so its not as high anymore. Thats the price i would guess since the WiiU is $300 i would say $400 for the next gen. But i wouldnt be suprised either if its at $500.

@OsborneLV Dude... dont get me wrong here, those are some impressive ideas, some of those features are possible and likely to even be in the box (like faster load times, being 4K capable and having a large drive although I dont see it being bigger than 750gb) but you're asking for a machine that is essentially a desktop computer, not a game system. You know why the PS3 browser sucked? Because it's not a PC. Every non-computer browser sucks, from cellphones to tablets to game consoles because they all work differently at a basic level from PCs. Media playback is a low priority beyond simply playing the content that you get from streaming companies like netflix or Sony's own PSN store. The number of players on line is entirely dependant on the game development not the system. All the other media centric suggestions and expecting it to replace your computer and DVR without add-on equipment are straight pipe dreams because sony wants more people to buy this than the PS3 which means lowering the bar for entry, Heck half the people that own a PS3 don't even understand everything it can do and you want to make it MORE complicated? Dial down your expectations to something more sensible that EVERYONE will care to buy not just yourself.

Only way they can do this really is if they have confidence in the hardware and that it wont do a red/yellow light of death issue and they have already got or can get the PS4 made in bulk with no build issues like the PS3 Blu Ray Diode for EU on launch.
