PlayStation 4! Yes, it’s finally been confirmed via the offical live stream that the name of Sony’s next-generation console will follow logic and be named PlayStation 4.

Rumours have been circulating for months that Sony may buck the trend due to Japanese superstition surrounding the number 4. Internally, PlayStation 4 was named Orbis causing speculation that Sony would opt for a name which revitalises the brand and ties in somewhat with its latest handheld, PlayStation Vita.

Well, the speculation can now stop. PlayStation 4 it is, and that sound you can hear? That's a huge sigh of relief echoing all around PSU Towers.

That's great, no need for a name change.

Fantastic. Feel like a lost opportunity with the whole Vita/Orbis thing, though at least it was an intersting codename to use. Glad they didn't do away with calling it PlayStation 4 just because of some silly superstition!
