UPDATE: Our retail source has confirmed that GameStop will NOT, in fact, be taking pre-orders for PlayStation 4 starting February 21. However, details about the "First to Know" program still stand.

Original: A retail source has indicated to PSU that GameStop may start taking pre-orders for PlayStation 4 tomorrow, February 21.

The source also explained that a new "First to Know" program will begin the same day. The program will allow customers to opt-in to receive notifications - email and otherwise - whenever GameStop receives new details about things like PS4 and various games.

Ha... gamestop, I'm surprised you didn't start Preorders just on the rumor of a PS4 alone.

Well one detail lacking that this news almost confirms is the use of an optical disc drive seeing as that's what Gamestop deals with mostly in their sales. I dunno why Sony didn't mention anything of discs are Blu-ray in the press event so am nervous that it will be digital only.

Although maybe it would just be a case of selling game vouchers and PSN credit. While digital only is the future way of gaming, it still is nice to be able to buy a game, collect it and bring it to a friends.

@alrightiwill333 They didn't say much about the hardware but it'd be silly not to still have a bluray drive, Sony still sells physical discs and people still oppose a fully digital option. Physical media is still in demand and will be for at least the next decade. Heck half of all PS3's still arent even connected to the net.
