PS4 games won't require an Internet connection to play

PlayStation 4 will not require an Internet connection in order to play games, Sony Worldwide Studios head honcho Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed.

While Sony’s philosophy with PS4 is clearly social-oriented, Yoshida-san confirmed that you won’t have to go online just to play a game – a requirement which the next Xbox is reported to implement.

Speaking with Eurogamer, the executive said: “Oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally. Social is big for us, but we understand there are some people who are anti-social! So if you don’t want to connect to anyone else, you can do that.”

Sony has also stated its intention to keep Firmware updates and other such tweaks working in the background, so if you leave you PS4 connected to the Internet, you’ll receive a constant stream of updates.

    Good.

Although most things are online thesedays in some way or another, only allowing a game to work if its conencted to the internet is silly.  GT5 Prologue was like this if you bought the download version off the store it annoyed me big time.

Good. There are still people that don't have internet, let alone a broadband connection. I don't want everything to be connected online anyways.

I hope they keep this whole social thing optional. I am pretty happy with the level of "socail" in the ps3. I dont need my facebook friends to know I got a trophy and dont want to tweet the last 7 seconds of me dying in Dark Souls.

I like keeping my psn friends, facebook friends and twitter followers all seperate. It would be career suicide if my boss had to get a tweet every time I fragged some guys in black ops.

nice to hear this, honestly I didn't think they'd go that way, but PS4 is a gaming platform and I don't have to be connected to the internet all the time to play
