Square Enix has filed a trademark for ‘Deus Ex: Human Defiance,’ suggesting a follow-up to the celebrated stealth-‘em-up Human Revolution is currently in the pipeline.

The trademark appeared yesterday, although that’s about all we know at present.

Of course, it’s worth remembering that Deus Ex is being given the movie treatment, so there’s a chance this filing could pertain to the game’s silver-screen debut.

However, Human Revolution was a massive success for the Square Enix, shifting 2.18 million copies globally as of September 30, 2011 – little over a month after its release. As such, a sequel shouldn't be ruled out.

Stay tuned to PSU.com for more details as we get them.

So excited for this. Human Revolution was one of my favorite games of 2011, and a truly exceptional shooter-RPG with mature themes and storytelling.

I've liked all of the Deus Ex games. That said, I'm hoping for a more unique subtitle. Human Defiance sounds similar to Human Revolution.
