Gran Turismo 6 will release on PS3 this year, Sony exec seemingly confirms

A Silicon Republic interview with SCEE Senior Vice President Michael Denny seems to confirm that Gran Turismo 6 will launch on PlayStation 3 in 2013.
You read that right: PS3, not PS4, and before year's end. It all sounds a bit outlandish, but fan site GTPlanet posted an audio excerpt from the Silicon Republic interview that confirms the news. Michael Denny, who appeared onstage at last week's PlayStation 4 reveal, clearly states, "When you look out the games coming out on PlayStation 3 this year--The Last of Us, Beyond, GT6 . . ." in response to (presumably) a question about software support in PS3's twilight years.
The interview was first published by Silicon Republic two days after the PlayStation 4 reveal, leaving Denny with no reason to "cover up" Gran Turismo 6's status as a PS4 title. But was it a mistake? IGN's Colin Moriarty--the Pride of Long Island--thinks not. Moriarty received comment from Sony about Denny's remarks. Rather than debunk Denny's words outright, or give the usual "We don't comment on rumors or speculation" line, Sony replied, "In 2010, Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that Polyphony Digital had commenced development for Gran Turismo 6. We look forward to sharing further deteails [sic] on this title in the near future."
So, where does that leave us? One branch of Sony says Gran Turismo 6 is launching in 2013 for PlayStation 3. Another branch says that we'll hear more soon. There's also the matter of DriveClub, a confirmed PS4 launch title that looks more-than-a-little inspired by Gran Turismo.
We'll have to wait for official confirmation to sort out this mess, but for now, Gran Turismo 6 seems confirmed for release on PS3 later this year. Sound off with your thoughts on the matter in the comments below.

Man, I wish somebody would get their head screwed on straight. How is it nobody can even tell us which system the damn game is going to release on? Im a big GT player/fan, and I really want to know. Im kind of hoping its on the PS3 because there will be a lot more people worldwide on it to play with when it comes out even though im buying the PS4 around the same time.

This means it's quite likely it will be years before we see a GT7 on PS4. Unless they have a seperate small internal team working slowly on it's base code as we speak.

I think its a countdown for E3. Anyways GT6 better have visible damage and more realistic car crashes, im a big GT fan, but that aspect is lacking bigtime! maybe it will hold off for PS4 to do that. anyways looks like Driveclub will be a go to game for PS4 come launch! I plan to buy it, hope it handle like GT series, dont want to play an arcade style racer, got wipeout for that.

I will rather have a great PS3 game rather than a mediocre PS4 game. Considering how long the developement cycle for the GT series is, this decision seems very reasonable. Developement for the PS4 probably just began a few months ago, so epxecting this game to be on the PS4 already is asking for a lot.

Polyphony Digital Could have ported this to PS4. Considering most of the cars in GT5 right now are just the PS2 models with better textures and new tires it's not as if they'd really have to do all that much to make the jump. If they REALLY wanted to make a suitable sequel and advances in graphics and car handeling they's make the PS4 version. This makes me thing they're just doing a minimal cash grab like GT5 prolog. I'm really kinda fed up with GT now. Not that Drive club is exciting me more or anything, it's just GT is getting stale because even adding visible crash damage there are a bunch of things that just feel empty and souless about the thing. No offence to the level of tunning they offer but I don't feel immersion from the game anymore like I did in the PS2 days.

It would be more of a business sense to create GT6 as a PS4 title for next year after a launch than abything to give the PS4 a great title to play on instead of PS3, its going as stated a cash grab like Prolog was

Probably, a cross-platform release sort of like what Ubisoft is doing for Watchdogs. I can't imagine GT not showing up on the PS4. Kazunori Yamauchi is always looking to advance his vision with new and more powerful technology.
Sony really needs to get their corporate windbags to shutup! Sony should have two guys that deal with PR and the rest of their CEO/Corporate tools, stick a sock in it. To much info coming from to many sources that are probably not completey in the know.
