Retro City Rampage on PS Vita sold more than Steam and XBLA versions

Last October's Retro City Rampage, the 8-bit send-up of open-world thrills, has sold more copies on PlayStation Network than on Xbox Live Arcade.

The news comes courtesy of Vblank Entertainment CEO, Programmer, and Designer Brian Provinciano, who worked on Retro City Rampage and tweeted about its success earlier today. Provinciano also detailed that the PS Vita version of Retro City Rampage, besides outselling the XBLA version outright, sold more than even the PS3 version of the game. Apparently, Steam couldn't stand up to PSN sales numbers, either:

Granted, the XBLA version didn't release until January 2, 2013 (giving PSN an almost three-month head start), but still - mighty impressive.

What do you think of Retro City Rampage's digital dominance on PSN over Steam and XBLA? Sound off in the comments below, and read more about Retro City Rampage on PSU.

Many indi developers have shared their negative experience with Xbox live so this is no surprise. Congratulations to provinciano.

Thats good to hear. I played this on my PS3, but it wasn't my type of game, so I deleted it. I grew bored of it.

From the twiter posts it sounds like he was specifically counting actual sales regardless of free versions.

Well it seems to me that the fact that it was free for PS Plus members would help a bit.
