PlayStation 4 should launch in the U.K. at £300 and hit shelves no later than Christmas in order to snag those crucial early adopters.
That’s according to Darren Cairns of Green Man Gaming, who told MCV: "Obviously there is a balance to strike between building an installed base for the great games to follow and losing too much on each box, but £299 would be a good price.”
"It looks like the console is getting some really strong third-party support, and we all know how important that can be,” said HMV games buyer, Richard Thomas.
"There’s also some really encouraging news on ‘social’ and ‘always online’ features for titles like DriveClub working across devices such as tablets and smartphones, while Killzone: Shadow Fall and other tech demos shows off the impressive graphical power of PS4."
However, Igor Cipolletta, CEO of ShopTo, was more sceptical over the console’s announcement.
"I was expecting a reveal like Apple’s. It would have said: ‘This week in store’. Sony still has a lot to learn."
Sony announced PS4 in New York City last week, where it confirmed a holiday 2013 ship date for the new console. However, it remains unknown how many territories will actually receive the platform this year.
Games so far confirmed as in development include Killzone: Shadow Fall, Deep Down, DriveClub, inFamous: Second Son and a new Final Fantasy title.
