PS Vita sales 'quadruple' in Japan

The president of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) has said that PlayStation Vita sales in the region have risen sharply since the introduction of a price cut last month.

Hiroshi Kawano reportedly confirmed (via Gematsu) that the handheld’s performance nearly quadrupled in comparison to the two weeks prior to the price drop.

Previously, PS Vita had struggled to gain momentum in its native Japan, and was frequently outsold by its predecessor, the PlayStation Portable, which continues to enjoy success in the territory.

PS Vita now retails for 19,980 yen for both the Wi-Fi and 3G models. Sony has said there are currently no plans to introduce a price cut in the U.S. and Europe.
