Famitsu magazine has confirmed that Lost Planet 3 will be released in Japan this summer.
Developed by Spark Unlimited, the sci-fi horror shooter will hit shelves on June 27.
Lost Planet 3 is due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360, and takes the form of an open-world prequel. Breaking away from the co-op centric antics of its predecessor, this third instalment will have more focus on narrative as it attempts to shed more light on the planet E.D.N III.
The game follows recent trends among Capcom IP in that it is being developed by an external studio, as was the case with Dead Rising 2 and DmC: Devil May Cry.
Lost Planet 3 is due out in the west in early 2013.

What's the point on prequels, I never understood why people actually like them since you already know what happens in the future. It's like someone already telling you everything about the story later on and expects you to buy their game even though you already know the story.

Capcom seems to have there hands full. I've been intrested in playing this series for awhile - any opinions of it here? Coconut_Crunch, I think they can be used to re-introduce ip's to people, while giving the devs a chance to revamp without calling a do-over and starting from scratch. I agree with you that it can be spoiled, & for that reason I think this can be alleviated when the length span of time between the original & prequel is greater. It also helps if the game universe itself is rich enough for multiple story archs that dont necessarily preclude each other. Allowing another perspective and enriching the over-all universe.
