Report: 3G PS Vita price cut in U.S. Sony stores, model to be discontinued

Joystiq reports that Sony has cut the price of the 3G PlayStation Vita model across North America.

The site states that stores have slashed the 3G edition price from $299.99 to $199.97, and have also thrown in an 8GB memory card. Those of you who sign up to a 3G contract in-store will also bag a free PSN game voucher.

Apparently, the deal is said to already be in place throughout a majority of stores in the U.S.

However, it appears Sony may in fact be looking to clear out stock of the 3G unit, rather than adopt a permanent price cut.

Why? Well, Joystiq has also claimed that the hardware giant is looking to discontinue the 3G model, at least that's according to employees at Sony’s New Jersey and Las Vegas stores. This would definitely explain the sudden price cut.

Sony recently dropped the price of PS Vita in Japan, where the high-powered handheld enjoyed a major surge in sales as a result.

Don't the 3G models have wifi as well? So wouldn't this actually be a steal or what?

This is a great deal! Unfortunately I hate gaming portables even if Vita is the best one.
