The Last of Us to become a franchise? Sony registers domains for The Last of Us 2 and 3

Domains for The Last of Us 2 and 3 have been registered by Sony (via Superannuation), indicating the company may have more in store for the post-apocalyptic adventure.
This isn’t outright confirmation on future sequels though, as companies frequently register URLs pertaining to big-name franchises in order to protect the IP.
Naughty Dog had previously suggested that a sequel wasn’t on the cards during a chat with GameInformer. Here, the studio revealed its disdain for games that end on a cliffhanger, and that they had no plans for The Last of Us to end in such a manner.
Of course, this could all change depending on how well the game sells; after all, if it proves a massive success, then Sony will likely be encouraged to pursue a sequel.
For now, read our latest preview to whet your appetite for the game’s worldwide launch on June 14.
